“Growing up as the son of a low budget filmmaker I always knew I wanted to be a film director. That dream was realized in a big way when I had the opportunity to direct the Disney film, ‘Maleficent’.”

“It was very clear to me that he was born to be a director, and he really wanted to be a director. Angelina’s an experienced actress, Robert is going to be a great director, and if he can provide the distinct visual style he brought to ‘Avatar,’ ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and ‘Oz The Great and Powerful,’ I think it’s a good marriage.”

“What a thrill it was to win my first Academy Award® for Production Design – along with Rick Carter – and then meeting Tom Hanks and Sigourney Weaver on stage when I least expected it. I didn’t even have an acceptance speech prepared, and I was so shocked and incredibly grateful to be recognized for my work on AVATAR. After the award presentation, I was taken backstage through the awards process – with Tom by my side – walking me through interviews and photos, and hanging in the green room with other celebrities.
It was the thrill of a lifetime!”
