Taco Bell

“Big Show” $1 Stacked Tacos

Director

This mesmerizing ‘Big Show’ commercial, released in December 2019, features Taco Bell’s slogan, "Value that Never Ceases to Amaze”. The story starts with a group of friends who are given a special $1 ticket to enter a magical, surreal circus. Inside the circus tent is a show where a world of performers are doing dazzling acrobatics and showcasing Taco Bell's Double Stacked tacos. The friends are amazed when they try the tacos – handed to them by the aerialists – and two entertainers reveal the price by blowing a giant $1 fireball into the air. It culminates with each of the entertainers performing in a 360 degree set while confetti sprinkles down on everyone.

The spot was directed by Robert Stromberg, who won the Academy Award in art direction for both ‘Avatar’ and ‘Alice in Wonderland’. His track record for creating make-believe worlds – Stromberg also directed ‘Maleficent’ – came in handy for Taco Bell.
— Elaine Underwood, Campaign US
The idea was to take something that feels simple, ‘Oh, another value menu,’ and making it sophisticated and premium. Robert Stromberg helped bring this magical world to life. He was the perfect person to help us elevate it.

Behind-the-Scenes Magic

The Taco Bell commercial was shot at the Grand Theatre in Poznan, Poland – Robert and Deutsch Stromberg casted actual people who were attending a circus school there. The random extras were real circus performers, real aerial artists, people who can balance and juggle. This all made it feel a little more special.

Why Shoot in Poland? Poland offers surprising and diverse locations, both urban and more remote, coupled with affordable, experienced crews, diverse talent, the availability of large stages for set builds and a production-friendly city makes Poland a fantastic place for shooting advertorials.
